Karate Uniform
Karate Uniform is what one wears when practicing Karate.
The material and cut of the uniform is generally much lighter and looser
fitting than judo uniforms. Due to the nature of Karate training which
emphasizes striking, kicking and a more limited range of standing throws
compared to Judo. The karate uniform has evolved in a manner that maximizes
mobility and speed without the extremely coarse and strong fabric required
for grappling and throwing found in Judo.
Different styles of Karate have slightly different Karate Uniforms though
all share the same basic design, differing only in the lengths of sleeves,
legs and the skirt of the jacket. Many people in karate tend to wear
their belt much longer than judoka and other martial artists. The advanced
practitioners seem to favor the use of a heavier fabric. 12 or 14 oz
cotton canvas is usually the norm, although some manufacturers offer
16 oz materials.
The difference between a good Karate Uniform and a great Karate Uniform
is in the quality and craftsmanship of the details. In addition to a
wide hem for a traditional drawstring, the pants should have gussets
and an additional double inseam to prevent an inconveniently embarrassing
rip. You'll also appreciate things like several rows of interlocked
stitching over the cuffs of the sleeves and the pant legs.
